Android apps to calculate auto and taxi fare
In case you live in India or plan a trip to the country in the near future, get set to be pestered by those dominating auto rickshaw and taxi drivers who charge tons of money even for small distances and refuse to turn their meters on! But, in case you own an Android phone, you can escape all such ordeals!
Some smart developers have worked out apps that can actually calculate the fare for a particular distance! These apps are still not known to many out there and can surely save a few bucks for the people who travel by auto rickshaws or taxis.
1) Fare-O-Meter- (4.7/5)
Fare-o-meter is an intelligent app developed by Utopia developers that helps in calculating the fare based upon the distance. It can be used for both taxis and auto rickshaws.
As you can see in the pic, just select your city and set the distance in the meter and you'll get the fare. You can select the amount of luggage you are carrying. There's also the option of checking fare for night time.
Add unlimited custom cities or utilize the 18 built in cities. There's an option of using GPS to get your speed and distance in real time. You can also call or mail the authorities from within the app.
2) AUTOFARE CALCULATOR- (4.5/5)
Autofare calculator is another neat app created by InovativeDevelopment.
The app is pretty easy to work with. Just select the city, select day or night, enter the meter reading, click on "show fare" and you'll get the exact amount on it.
The supported cities include Ahmadabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Thane. This app calculates only auto fares, no taxi fares.
3) METERUP!-(4.3/5)
This is by far the best app I've come across in this category.
MeterUp! is easy to use and you can also access the map with the route.
Just select your city, enter the source and destination and click on "Get Fare". You'll get the auto fare, taxi fare and distance all at one place.
Supported cities include Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Nagpur, Ahmadabad, Pune, Trivandrum.
